Vince Carl has shifted from his focus on the figure to abstraction with great success after several years of hard work as his process evolved technically and philosophically.
"I use squeegees, acrylic paint, charcoal, gold leaf, and various acrylic mediums, building layers during the process, intermittently I sand or scratch into the surface to reveal clues of an earlier state. Through this manipulation the positive and negative space merge and flow into the other. The compositional elements wrap around the edges of the support completing the image on the sides. Using this technique, translucency and gold leaf I try to express immersion and value of being."
