Bold and rich treatment of botanical forms feature prominently in the work of printmakers, Tallmadge Doyle and Noriko Sugita.  Sugita carves wood block plates to create intricate layers of pattern and form while Doyle uses a variety of methods including aquatint, line etching, drypoint and hand coloring with dramatic results.

Show runs September 1- October 4th.  Artist Reception during the First Friday Artwalk, September 2nd, 5-8 p.m.

August Artists

At first glance Bobbie Jansen and Gabriel Mark Lipper’s paintings are still lifes and portraits, and while both artists approach painting with a respect to these traditions, they share a greater concern for the archetypal resonance of their subject matter.  Transcending the individuality of a woman or the functionality of a shoe, through painting the artists are relating to a broader association with people and objects in our lives; our mothers, our sisters, our everyday burdens/joys….existing at times as both anonymous, yet deeply familiar and always universal.

Show runs from August 4th - 30th with an artist reception on First Friday, August 5th from 5-8 p.m.

July Artists

            Wataru Sugiyama                                     Peter VanFleet

July 1st - August 2

Artists reception First Friday,

July 1st,    5 - 8 p.m.

Hanson Howard Gallery will feature the ceramic sculptures of Wataru Sugiyama and abstract paintings of Peter VanFleet this July. Working with vastly different approaches, for both artists a formative element is the simultaneous embrace of and departure from tradition.  The play with material and form allows these artists to push and pull at ideas of traditional spiritual and classical forms.

Exhibition will run June 30th - August 2nd. Please join us for an artist’s reception on Friday, July 1st 5-8 p.m.

June Artists

June 3rd - 28th

Artists reception First Friday,
June 3rd,    5 - 8 p.m.

Our June featured artists reimagine the world around us.  The ceramic and mixed assemblage sculptures of collaborative duo, Robin & John Gumaelius stretch the bounds of imaginative figures, embracing the theatrical and whimsical. Painter, Jon Jay Cruson’s landscapes combine studies of his surroundings with color, shapes and patterns from his own imaginative vocabulary.
