Ken Grant
Ken Grant’s paintings invite the viewer into a sunlit comfort zone. They are seductive and serene. His interiors expand a home environment by adding a visual room – a room that may be almost vacant allowing one to focus on the light and shadow from a window, a door, a stairwell or upon an object in the room.
Ken’s still life compositions are simple arrangements that become complex by employing reflective surfaces, positioning and lighting thereby turning ordinary objects into something extraordinary.
Ken also lets his imagination enter a surreal world often portraying figurative subjects in unexpected places or situations. He sometimes borrows the black derby and green apple theme from Magritte but always with his own familiar personal style.
There is a recurring theme that leaks into all of ken’s work – water. He spent much of his life near the sea and though he might be called a romantic contemporary realist, the water makes everything surreal.
