Figuratively Speaking
an invitational exhibition of the human form

Paintings by Vince Carl, James Kirk, Mabrie Ormes, Karen Staal. Drawings by Kris Hackleman and Sculpture by Candace Miller

"Figuratively Speaking", an invitational exhibition is designed to evolve from basic interpretations of the human form (nudes) by James Kirk and Vince Carl, through the placement of figures in various settings that evoke a story or situation by Karen Staal, Mabrie Ormes and Candace Miller to portraiture by Kris Hackleman.

Regarding technique, Vince Carl offers the following: My figures develop much the same as a person’s character. I use squeegees, acrylic paint, charcoal, gold leaf, and various acrylic mediums, building layers during the process, intermittently I sand or scratch into the surface to reveal clues of an earlier state. Through this manipulation the positive and negative space merge and flow into the other. The figural and compositional elements wrap around the edges of the support completing the image on the sides. Using this technique, translucency and gold leaf I try to express immersion and value of being.
