Betty LaDuke
We are pleased to introduce new work by internationally renown artist, Betty LaDuke.
For the past two years, Betty has been creating murals. The first one was for Heifer International in Little Rock, Arkansas and that inspired a second one for a village marketplace. The process involved cutting and shaping plywood panels that fit together to form the mural which is 7’ x 90’ wide. The surface has been sculpted with a router adding a third dimension. Because of her enthusiasm about working with a new medium, Betty has created individually shaped paintings. The shapes and imagery are reminiscent of earlier etchings that will also be included in this exhibition.
Frank Cebulski, a contributing editor for Art Week wrties, “Betty LaDuke is an artist who has succeeded in assimilating the myths, idioms, iconography and metaphors of other cultures holistically into her work. She has done so in a manner and style that integrates the acquired cultural artifacts with her own feminine, ecological, and spiritual views.”
