RETURN TO THE FIGURE
The human figure, in all of its extraordinary forms, has been a consistent and significant motif for me as an artist.
The work in October's exhibit represents the most recent work with the figure. A few pieces are direct "life drawings" in oil pastel. Most are mixed media , oil pastel over a matrix of numbers or 1970's vintage circuit board patterns. The works are on paper; many began as monoprints, oil transfer drawings, or monotypes and lead back to studies with master printmaker, Lyle Matoush. Quite a few began in Lyle's studio, pulled from Lyle's press, while I was housesitting, as Lyle and Jime were traveling around the world visiting museums, friends. The color and execution bear influence also from the Bay Area Figurative work, Which I have been fortunate to view in abundance while living in Napa.
After a lengthy pause in Artwork, the past year has been an explosion of work and Ideas. All of the work is filled with vigorous emotion, and intense execution. I am working simultaneously on six very different bodies of work.
There may be a few surprises in the show from some of these series as well.
