ARTIST STATEMENT
The animals in my paintings are mostly a means to an end. They frequently depict my theories about the world, ideas I have, or my view of a past event, or sometimes they portray a person I know.
The northern European painters of the 1400's and contemporary naive painters of eastern Europe are my influences. I am looking for the depth of color, honesty, and personal voice I see there.
There is an addtional aspect to my work and that is humor. If I don't include humor, even if it's a little dark, I don't feel the piece is complete. It's how I gain perspective on this gigantic, beautiful mess.
